Opinions and RANTS

RANT.... Cheap people...I am a professional artist and craftsman, so I get all kinds of wonderful and not so wonderful jobs.My least favorite of all clients to deal with are the cheap ones, you know the types. Some have LOTS of money and some don't, but the one thing they have in common is they are cheap. They have their idea of what is a fair price and will shop around until they find some poor schlep(like me) that will do it for THEIR price. Now when I'm doing a job , I always do what I'm paid for, but the cheap client will want MORE than that. They want a DEAL....I was shown a very nice house that needed some faux finish repair done. I was led to believe that this job was of a certain nature which would have been more costly than the client had intended to pay. But instead of telling me this from the beginning they let me go ahead and schedule the time and get ready to do the work. After a very difficult time in contacting this client, the client decided it was more money than he/she was willing to pay......so to make a real long story short(er)..I had to cut my cost , change the scope of the work and suck it up.What was I supposed to do?....I had already scheduled it in...I needed to make something off the job......it was a very ugly power play on the clients part......I know...some of you are saying"ahhhh...poor little artist...did the big bad rich person take advantage of you?"the answer is yes...and bite me if you thought that..It always baffles me how they prioritize themselves...Some people are more willing to spend $500.00 on a haircut than $2000.00 on the beautification of thier house....I'ts a tough business......and I know I'll have more cheap people to deal with in the future.....it's the nature of the beast.......I'ts amazing what kind of sacrifices one makes for the sake of the craft (and to pay bills.)
